New Delhi (Vishvas News). As soon as the Bihar elections were announced, fake and misleading news across various social media platforms has gone viral. Amidst this, a picture of a meeting between the Bihar Chief Minister and Janata Dal (United) chief Nitish Kumar and former Chief Minister and Rashtriya Janata Dal chief Lalu Prasad Yadav is going viral. The photo is being shared, linking it to the 2025 Bihar Legislative Assembly elections, with claims that Nitish visited Lalu.
Vishvas News, in its investigation, found that the viral claim is fake. This picture dates back to April 2023 and is now being shared with a misleading claim, linking it to the 2025 Bihar Legislative Assembly elections.
What is in the viral post?
Facebook user ‘Bajrang Tripathi‘ shared the viral post on October 14, with the caption, “Today, Honourable Chief Minister Nitish Kumar met Lalu Yadav, it is possible that there might be a possibility of him switching sides again.”

Investigation
To begin our investigation, we first searched the viral picture using Google Lens. This led us to this picture published in a news article on the DNA Hindi website on April 12, 2023. According to the information in the news report, “Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar met Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Yadav in Delhi. The two leaders discussed the current political situation and also efforts to strengthen opposition unity to counter the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.”
Following this lead, we found a news article published on ABP Live on 11 April 2023, where the viral image also appears. Furthermore, according to the provided information, this photo is from a meeting between Nitish and Lalu in Delhi. Elaborating on the picture, it stated, “It is being said that Nitish may also meet leaders of opposition parties, so that an alliance can be formed against the BJP in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.”
News agency ANI also uploaded this picture on its X handle on April 11, 2023.
Continuing our investigation, we looked for any recent formal meeting between Nitish and Lalu. In our investigation, we did not find any such news. Had such a meeting occurred, the media would definitely have covered it.
To verify the authenticity of the viral picture, we contacted our associate, Raman Shukla, a special correspondent covering the upcoming elections at Dainik Jagran, Patna, who confirmed that this picture of Nitish and Lalu is several years old.
It is noteworthy that the voting for the Legislative Assembly elections in Bihar will be held in two phases. Voting for the first phase will be on November 6, and for the second phase on November 11. The counting of votes will take place on November 14. Meanwhile, all parties have begun the process of releasing their lists of candidates. Elections are being held for a total of 243 seats.

Lastly, we conducted a social scan of the Facebook user ‘Bajrang Tripathi’ who shared the misleading post and found that the user identifies as a resident of Bihar and has 4000 followers.
