Fact Check: Viral Image Claiming PM Modi’s Photograph Session In Assam Tea Garden Is AI-generated
Vishvas News investigated and found this claim to be fake. The viral image of PM Modi was created using Google AI. The investigation confirmed the detection of 'SynthID' in the image.

New Delhi (Vishvas News). Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Dibrugarh, Assam, on April 1, 2026. He also visited a tea plantation there and took a selfie with the workers. A photo is rapidly going viral, featuring PM Modi sitting with some people, surrounded by several cameras, lighting, and microphones. The claim suggests that the photo was taken during a photoshoot at a tea plantation in Assam, where a complete set was reportedly set up.
Vishvas News investigated and found this claim to be false. The viral image of PM Modi was created using Google AI, which was confirmed by the detection of ‘SynthID’ in the image.
What is going viral?
Facebook user ‘Sourav Kundu’ shared the viral photo on April 4, 2026, with the caption, “You have rarely seen such a shooting. Now, calculate its cost as well!”
Former cricketer and Trinamool Congress MP Kirti Azad also shared the viral photo on his official X account with the same claim. You can see the archived link of the post here.

Investigation
To verify the authenticity of the viral claim, we conducted a Google search using relevantkeywords and found no news reports related to the claim. We also searched PM Modi’s official social media accounts, but found no posts related to the claim.
Upon closer inspection, we discovered several flaws in the photo. One person’s leg appears to be cut in half. PM Modi’s face is unclear, with a rather odd facial structure. The posters contain language errors, a common occurrence in AI-generated images, raising the suspicion that the photo was AI-generated.
To further investigate, we analysed the image with Google’s SynthID detector, which confirmed the detection of SynthIDs in some or all of the images (Very High: SynthID confidence).
SynthID is a tool for watermarking and identifying AI-generated content created by Google’s AI models. This means that whenever a Google AI tool creates an image, SynthID inserts a digital watermark into it. This watermark is invisible to the naked eye, but the SynthID detector detects it.
We also used another tool, Hive Moderation, to verify the photo. This tool also indicated that the photo was 99% AI-generated.
To verify further, we contacted BJP spokesperson Vijay Sonkar Shastri, who confirmed that the viral image is misleading and opposition parties often create and share such AI-generated images to tarnish PM Modi’s image.
What is the context?
It is noteworthy that PM Modi is on an election tour in Assam ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections. He has held several public meetings during this period. On April 1, 2026, he visited a tea garden in Dibrugarh, where he met the workers and took selfies with them. He shared these photos and videos on his official X account. On April 1, 2026, he shared a video of this visit on his official X account, writing, “This morning at a tea garden in Dibrugarh, I got a glimpse of the culture of the tea garden families. Their contribution to Assam’s progress is incomparable. Here are some highlights.”

Finally, we scanned the Facebook account of the user who shared the photo with the false claim and found that the user describes himself as a resident of Kolkata and hasover 7000 followers. The user also shares posts related to a specific ideology.
Conclusion: Vishvas News investigated and found this claim to be fake. The viral image of PM Modi was created using Google AI. The investigation confirmed the detection of ‘SynthID’ in the image.
