Fact Sheet: Corona Active Again, Learn How To Survive

COVID-19 cases are on the rise in India. understand the reasons behind this surge, key prevention tips, and necessary precautions to stay safe

New Delhi. India is once again witnessing a rise in COVID-19 cases, with the number of active cases crossing the 1000 mark. States like Kerala, Maharashtra, and Delhi are currently reporting the highest case counts. Experts explain that viruses naturally mutate over time to survive, a process called mutation.

Experts advise that besides the elderly, children, and pregnant women, people with pre-existing health conditions should remain especially vigilant, as these underlying issues can weaken the immune system, increasing vulnerability to infection.  Despite the recent surge, the government and doctors stress that there is no need to panic. Staying informed and prevention is the effective solution.

Let’s learn some important things about the new infection of COVID-19

In response to the growing cases of COVID-19, the government has stepped up its efforts. The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare is closely monitoring the situation and issuing official data and guidelines to ensure public awareness and prevent panic.

Dr Rajiv Bahl, Director General, Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), stated that the severity of the situation depends on how contagious the virus is, essentially, how quickly it spreads. While previous COVID waves saw case numbers doubling rapidly,  the current surge does not appear to follow the same pattern. He explained that when new variants emerge, they evade both natural and vaccine-derived immunity. However, there is nothing to panic about at this point.

Dr Bahl stated, “There is no need to be afraid of the cases that are coming.” In an interview with ANI, Dr Bahl emphasised the need for vigilance, stating that all cases are being closely monitored and the current variants are not severe. The newly identified variants include LF. 7, XFG, JN. 1, and NB.1.8.1. He also highlighted that genome sequencing is being conducted on samples from various locations to monitor the situation closely.

Experts say that individuals with pre-existing health conditions require extra care. Additionally, the elderly, children, and pregnant women should remain vigilant.
