New Delhi (Vishvas News): Amidst the ongoing discussions around the Pahalgam terror attack, a video is going viral on social media platforms claiming that Mumbai police have apprehended one terrorist and neutralised another.
However, Vishvas News’ investigation found this claim to be false. The viral video is from a mock drill conducted by the Mumbai police, not a real counter-terror operation.
What is viral?
Facebook user ‘Jiglastic’ shared the viral video (archive link) on May 14, 2022, with the caption, “13.05.2025 Commandos killed one terrorist and captured one in Powai, Mumbai at 5.30 pm today, Mumbai is on high alert for the next two days.”
Investigation
To verify the claim, we first conducted a keyword search and found no recent news reports of terrorists being caught in Mumbai.
A reverse image search of the video frames led us to a YouTube Short uploaded on May 14, 2025, by the channel @ThePerfectVoiceNews. The video description clearly stated that the footage was from a mock drill conducted at Nahar Amrut Shakti Road, Chandivali. The description read: “A routine mock drill was conducted today at Nahar Amrit Shakti Road, Chandivali. Authorities have confirmed that it was a planned exercise and urged citizens not to panic or worry. These drills are carried out to ensure preparedness for emergency situations. Stay alert, stay safe.”
Using relevant keywords, we came across a post dated May 13 from the official X handle of Sakinaka Police, which stated that “On May 13, 2025, at around 12:00 pm, a mock drill was conducted at Nahar Amrut Shakti, D Mart, Chandivali, Sakinaka, Mumbai 400072, under the jurisdiction of Sakinaka Police Station. The mock drill was attended by Assistant Commissioner of Police, Sakinaka Division, Mumbai, Pradeep Mairale, Senior Police Inspector, PSI Kundalkar, seven commandos of West QRT Battalion and five commandos of Main QRT Battalion along with PSI Masal.”
To confirm the details, Vishvas News contacted ACP Pradeep Mairal, who verified that the video was indeed from a mock drill and had no links to any terrorist activity or operation.
Facebook user Jiglastic, who shared the viral video with the false claim, has around 4000 followers.
Conclusion: Vishvas News, in its investigation, found that the claim about a recent terrorist arrest in Mumbai is false. The video is actually of a mock drill conducted by the police.
