New Delhi (Vishvas News). A dramatic video showing vehicles stranded in the middle of a river—one of which is eventually swept away by strong currents—is going viral on social media. Now, some users are sharing this video, linking it to the recent cloud burst in Kullu.
Vishvas News investigated the viral video and found the claim to be misleading. The video is not recent—it dates back to July 2023, when heavy rainfall in Manali caused the Beas river to overflow, sweeping away several parked vehicles.
What is in the viral post?
Facebook user DP Thakur shared the video on June 16, 2025 and wrote, “Cloudburst in Kullu, many vehicles damaged.”
The caption on the video reads, “Cloud burst in Kullu and Mandi. Many people and vehicles have been swept away.”

Investigation
To verify the viral claim, we did a keyword search on Google. We found the viral video on the official YouTube channel of @HT-Videos. The video was shared on 9 July 2023. According to the information available, many tourist vehicles parked on the banks of the Beas river in Manali were washed away.
Times Now reported the same incident on July 9, 2023, stating that cars were washed away from a Manali parking lot due to the swollen Beas river.
A news report related to the viral video was also found on the website of freepressjournal.in published on 9 July 2023.

Speaking to Vishvas News, Navneet Sharma, Himachal Pradesh State Editor of Dainik Jagran, confirmed, “This video is old. There is nothing like this in the recent past. People share old videos in the wrong context to garner likes.”
