Fact Check: This Video Of Stone Pelting On A Convoy Of Paramilitary Forces Returning From The LOC Is Not From India But From PoK

New Delhi (Vishvas News): After the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, India carried out air strikes targeting terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). Following these strikes, tension escalated between the two countries along the Line of Control (LOC), and India eventually agreed to a ceasefire on Pakistan’s request.

In this context, a video is being shared across various social media platforms, with claims that paramilitary forces returning from the LOC after the ceasefire were pelted with stones in Jammu and Kashmir. Some posts claim that the security forces’ vehicles were heavily damaged in this stone pelting, while others allege that this video shows stone pelting on a convoy heading to Vaishno Devi in ​​Jammu and Kashmir.

Vishvas News investigated and found this claim to be false. The viral video is not from Jammu and Kashmir, but from Muzaffarabad in PoK. This video features a protest in 2024, when demonstrations over inflation in Muzaffarabad led to stone pelting at Pakistani army vehicles.

During the war with Pakistan, the company of security forces had gone to the army camp on the border to do duty with the army so that the Indian Army does not face any kind of problem. After the ceasefire, the companies of CRPF, CISF were returning when some traitors of the country started pelting stones from the hills on the convoy of security forces, in response to which the security forces had to fire in the air. The Indian Army made a video with a drone. There was a stampede during the aerial firing due to which 9 stone pelters died after slipping from the hills. Some vehicles of the security forces have suffered heavy damage.”

Investigation

To trace the original source of the viral video, we conducted a reverse image search of its key frames and found this video posted on reddit.com, which was shared a year ago.

According to the information given in the video, “This is a video of stone pelting on Pakistani Army vehicles.”

A Pakistani user commented on the video, stating that it is from ‘Lohar Gali’. Based on this clue, we checked this location on Google Maps’ Street View and found that it is indeed in Muzaffarabad, PoK.

To verify whether Pakistani news portals had covered this incident, we used the Express VPN tool and found this video on the official YouTube channel of Pakistani news portal Dawn News.

This video, shared on May 18, 2024, is said to show stone pelting in PoK.

Several other reports also mention protest and stone pelting incidents in PoK. According to a May 12, 2024, report by ET, massive protests in Muzaffarabad against inflation turned violent after the crackdown.

Our investigation confirms that the viral video is not from India but from PoK. We contacted Army PRO Lieutenant Colonel Sunil Baratwal,  who confirmed, “This video is not from Jammu and Kashmir but from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.”

Conclusion: A video of stone pelting on a convoy of Pakistani security forces during a protest during an anti-inflation protest in Muzaffarabad, PoK, last year is being falsely shared as footage of stone pelting on a paramilitary convoy in Jammu and Kashmir.
