Fact Check: Two-Year-Old Video of Police Officer Allegedly Taking Drugs Resurfaces as Recent

New Delhi (Vishvas News): The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Punjab has launched a ‘war on drugs’ campaign against drug abuse. Amid this, a video is going viral on social media, showing a police officer allegedly taking drugs. Several users are sharing this video, claiming it to be recent.
Vishvas News investigated the claim and found that the video dates back to 2023. At that time, the police officer seen in the video was suspended after the video surfaced. The same viral video is now being shared again out of context and has no connection to the current situation.

Facebook user “Bhedan Da Jija” shared the viral video with the caption, “Punjab Police has launched a war against drugs. They are destroying the drugs lying in the police station by drinking them.”

Investigation
To investigate the viral video, we conducted a keyword search on Google and came across a related news article on the freepressjournal.in, published on July 8, 2023. According to the information provided, “This video is from Ferozepur, Punjab, where a video of a police constable has surfaced, in which he can be seen wearing a uniform and consuming drugs. The policeman has been identified as Constable Satpal Singh. After the video surfaced, Satpal was immediately suspended and a departmental inquiry was conducted against him.”
The news also featured a statement from Constable Satpal, who clarified that the video going viral on social media is old.
We found related coverage on the Punjabi Jagran website. According to their report published on July 8, 2023, the constable featured in the video was posted at Makhu police station in Ferozepur. After the video surfaced, he was immediately suspended, and a departmental inquiry was initiated against him.
The viral video was shared by the Opposition Leader in the Punjab Vidhan Sabha, Partap Singh Bajwa, on his X handle on July 8, 2023, and described as being from Ferozepur.

We contacted Parminder Singh Thind, Ferozepur Bureau Chief of Dainik Jagran. After reviewing the video we shared, he confirmed that this video is old and is not recent.
Finally, we checked the Facebook user who shared the video and found that the user has around 15000 followers.
