Fact Check: Video Of Rishikesh Bungee Jumping Platform Collapsing Is AI-Generated

New Delhi (Vishvas News). A video going viral on social media features a bungee jumping platform collapsing suddenly, with people seen falling from it. Social media users are claiming that this accident happened in Rishikesh.
Vishvas News investigated the viral post and found it to be fake. No such accident has occurred in Rishikesh, and the video is AI-generated.
What is going viral
Facebook user Shaharyar Muhammedi posted a video on May 22, with the claim, “A scary video has surfaced from Rishikesh, in which the bungee jumping platform is seen breaking. This incident raises a big question on the security arrangements amidst the thrill.”
The content of the viral post has been reproduced exactly as shared. Many users are sharing it, believing it to be true. The archived version of the post can be seen here.
Investigation
To verify the authenticity of the viral video, Vishvas News first extracted several keyframes from the viral video, purportedly linked to Rishikesh. These frames were then analysed using Google Lens and Yandex tools. After extensive searching, the original video was found on a YouTube channel named ‘Quake Skyfall’, uploaded on May 3, stating that it was created using AI and no one was harmed.
Further analysis of this channel revealed it is operated from Sweden and hosts many AI-created videos, many depicting accidents.
In this video, we noticed the name ‘The Cliff’ was displayed. Using this clue, we conducted a Google search and discovered that ‘The Cliff’ is a well-known resort in Nepal, famous for activities like bungee jumping and swinging.
Vishvas News continued the investigation by looking into ‘The Cliff’s’ Instagram handle. There, we found many videos showing the same platform featured in the viral video, marked with the word ‘SWING’.
Vishvas News also contacted The Cliff Resort in Nepal, which confirmed that the location shown in the viral video is their property. They clarified that the video was created using AI, and this information has been reported.
Additionally, Vishvas News contacted the Deepfake Analysis Unit (DAU), an initiative of MCA, to analyse the video. The expert team extracted keyframes focusing on human figures and analysed them using the WasitAI tool. The results indicated that these scenes were either created or manipulated by AI. After a thorough review, the DAU team concluded that the viral video was AI-created.
During the investigation, Vishvas News contacted Deepak Semwal, the in-charge of Dainik Jagran, Rishikesh. He confirmed that no such accident like the onw shown in the viral video has happened in Rishikesh, stating that the video is fake.
Vishvas News also contacted Upendra Kumar, a journalist based in Kathmandu, Nepal’s capital. He confirmed that no accident like the one in the viral video has happened in Nepal.
At the end of the investigation, the user who made the fake claim was identified. The profile had over 7000 followers, but no additional information was found about this profile.
Conclusion: Vishvas News’ investigation revealed that the viral video is fake. No such accident has happened in Rishikesh as shown in the viral video, it is an AI-generated video.
