New Delhi (Vishvas News): A Twitter screenshot that shared details of Army recruitment guidelines from Uttarakhand Police was making rounds on social media on August 23, 2022. The screenshot stated that the recruitment for Garhwal Rifle would be starting in Kotdwar, for which the government had passed specific guidelines that needed to be followed diligently.
However, Vishvas News, in its investigation, found the claim to be false as the Uttarakhand Police issued no such guidelines. Seeing the virality of the situation, the Uttarakhand Police also issued a disclaimer refuting any such claims.
Facebook user ‘Guru Negi’ posted a Twitter screenshot with details stating: The recruitment for Garhwal Rifle is going to start in Kotdwar, Uttarakhand, for which the Uttarakhand Police has passed specific guidelines like the liquor shops will be closed henceforth; the aspirants with the surname ‘Negi, Rawat and Bisht’ will be checked at regular intervals; police force will be present for more vigilance and Section 144 of CrPC might be imposed in the area; commandos can also be called in case of emergency.
No evidence related to the graphic was also found on official accounts of Uttarakhand Police. Instead, many disclaimers related to the claim were found on Uttarakhand Police Facebook and Twitter accounts on August 22, 2022. The post was also found on the Pauri Garhwal Police Uttarakhand Facebook account.
However, as Vishvas News believes in the physical verification policy, we gathered inputs from Jagran reporter from Kotdwar, Ajay Khantwal, who rubbished the claims and called the news very old and fake!
Jagran’s online journalist from Uttarakhand, Sunil Negi, also verified the claims and called the news fake.
Answering our queries, Shekhar Suyal, Additional SP Kotdwar, confirmed, “This message is absolutely fake.”
In the social scanning, Vishvas News also found out that the Facebook user Guru Negi, who hails from Pauri and lives in Chandigarh, joined the social media handle in July 2013 and currently has a following of more than 4500 people on his profile.
Conclusion: The Uttarakhand Police has not issued any guidelines, as shown in the Twitter screenshot, related to the Garhwal Rifle recruitment in Kotdwar. The Twitter screenshot, circulating on social media, is photoshopped and fake!
