Fact Check: Viral Video Of Earth From Moon Not Captured By ISRO Rover

New Delhi (Vishvas News).  A video is viral on social media with the claim that it shows footage taken by the Indian space agency ISRO’s rover on the Moon, capturing a view of Earth. Many users are sharing it, believing it to be real.

Vishvas News, in its investigation, found that this claim is false. This is a digitally created video, not an official ISRO release.

What is going viral

Instagram user jaykaran93492 posted this video on June 22, 2025, with the caption, “ISRO’s glory on the moon. View of the Earth from the moon.”

Investigation

Vishvas News carefully checked the viral video, and we found many inconsistencies:

1) We noticed that the entire rover is visible in the video, whereas in reality, the camera is installed on top of the rover, so it is not possible to see the entire rover like this.

2) In the video, the rover is moving at an unusually high speed, which does not match the rest of the footage released by ISRO.

3) Apart from this, the video quality is excellent, which does not match the rest of the footage of the moon released by ISRO.

We checked ISRO’s website and found the authentic footage from the Chandrayaan-3 mission. The original clips look very different from the viral video, both in terms of camera angle and quality.

We shared the viral video with editing and design expert Arun Kumar for confirmation. He analysed the video and told us, “This footage is not real. The speed of the rover in the video, the wheel marks seen in front of the rover, the shape and size of the Earth, the lights seen on the Earth, all indicate that this is digitally created footage.”

We have also contacted ISRO via email regarding this video. This story will be updated as soon as their response comes.

India’s first lunar mission, Chandrayaan-1, was successfully launched on October 22, 2008, from Satish Dhawan Space Centre, Sriharikota. This was an orbiter mission. Chandrayaan-2 was launched on July 22, 2019. The mission consisted of an orbiter, lander, and rover. However, on September 7, 2019, the mission failed when the soft landing of the lander on the lunar surface was unsuccessful. However, ISRO successfully launched Chandrayaan-3 on July 14, 2023, with the lander Vikram’s soft landing on the south pole of the Moon on August 23, 2023, and the rover ‘Pragyan’ walking on the lunar surface. 

The Instagram user jaykaran93492, who shared the viral video with the false claim, has over 1000 followers.

Conclusion: Vishvas News investigated and found the viral claim to be false. This clip showing the view of Earth from the Moon is not taken by the ISRO Rover but is a digitally created video.
