Fact Check: Claims Of PM Modi’s Boycott In The Israeli Parliament Are False

New Delhi (Vishvas News). A video circulating on social media following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s February 2026 visit to Israel claims that Israeli opposition leaders boycotted his address to the Knesset.
Vishvas News investigated and found the viral claim to be false. The walkout in the Israeli Parliament was not a snub toward Prime Minister Narendra Modi, but rather a protest over an internal political dispute. Opposition members returned to their seats before PM Modi’s speech. Opposition leader Yair Lapid later stated that the protest had nothing to do with PM Modi.
What is the viral post?
Instagram user ‘tvtenbharat‘ posted this video (archived link) on February 26, 2026, with the caption, “Modi boycott in Israeli Parliament, members left Parliament as soon as his name was mentioned.”
Investigation
To verify the viral claim, we searched Google for the keyword. According to a report published in The Jerusalem Post on February 25, 2026, “The opposition staged a walkout during Knesset Speaker Ohana’s opening address, protesting the refusal of Supreme Court President Yitzhak Amit to attend the special session. The opposition returned to their seats after Ohana and Netanyahu’s address, and before PM Modi’s address. PM Modi respectfully welcomed opposition leader Yair Lapid.”
The Times of Israel’s website also reported this on February 25, 2026. According to the report, “Opposition MPs walked out of the Knesset, skipping speeches by Parliament Speaker Ohana and PM Netanyahu. They were protesting the exclusion of High Court President Yitzhak Amit from a special session honouring Indian Prime Minister Modi. They returned in the evening to attend PM Modi’s speech. Opposition leader Lapid welcomed PM Modi and assured him that the protest was not directed at him. It should be noted that last week, Lapid had threatened to boycott the event if Yitzhak Amit was not invited.”
A video of the event was uploaded to the YouTube channel ‘IsraeliPM’ on February 25, 2026. The viral clip can be seen at the 27:50 minute mark onwards. The opposition leader can also be seen clarifying after 1:05 minutes.
We contacted Israeli fact-checker Uria Bar Mer regarding this matter, who stated, “There is a dispute in Israel regarding the legitimacy of the President of the Supreme Court. Contrary to protocol, the Speaker of the Knesset (Parliament) did not invite him, so the opposition said they would boycott the speeches. In the end, they did not do so. They only boycotted the speeches of the Speaker and the Israeli Prime Minister, but they came for PM Modi. There was no boycott of PM Modi, only the Israeli Prime Minister and the Knesset Speaker.”
This makes it clear that PM Modi was not boycotted in the Israeli Parliament. The opposition staged a walkout over an internal matter.
According to a report published on DD News’ website on February 27, “PM Modi has returned from a two-day visit to Israel. During this visit, the two countries reached mutual agreements on several important issues. These include cooperation in key areas such as defence, security, trade, technology, and agriculture.”
Finally, we searched the photo of PM Modi, Israeli PM Netanyahu, and his wife Sara, shared in the post, using Google Lens. We found this photo on Netanyahu’s X account, posted on February 25, 2026.
The Instagram user who shared the video with the false claim has over 60,000 followers.
Conclusion: The opposition in the Israeli Parliament boycotted the addresses of the Knesset Speaker and the Israeli PM for not inviting the President of the Supreme Court to a special session. They returned before PM Modi’s address. The opposition leader later clarified that it had nothing to do with PM Modi.
