New Delhi (Vishvas News). Amidst recent tensions between Afghanistan and Pakistan, a video has gone viral claiming to show Afghan forces shooting down a Pakistani fighter jet.
However, Vishvas News’ investigation found this claim to be false. The viral video is not real, but was created using AI. Furthermore, the claim that Afghanistan is waging war against Pakistan is also misleading.
What is viral?
Social media user ‘Vishal JyotiDev Agarwal’ shared the viral video (archived link) on February 24, 2026, with the caption, “Afghanistan shot down a Pakistani fighter jet! Afghanistan declares: War with Pakistan has begun!”

Investigation
Visual forensic analysis immediately raised red flags regarding the video’s authenticity. To verify, we processed the footage through multiple industry-standard AI detection tools.
Hive Moderation confirmed a high probability of AI manipulation, specifically identifying the Seedance2 tool as the likely source.

SightEngine detected a 70-90% probability of AI-manipulation in key frames (specifically at the 8, 10, and 16-second marks). The analysis suggests the use of advanced models like Sora or Wan.

DeepFake-O-Meter (University of Buffalo): The AVSRDD (2025) indicator confirmed a near 100% probability that the video is AI-created. Meanwhile, WAV2LIP-STA (2022) confirmed that this video was approximately 55% AI-created.
To verify, we contacted Umashankar Singh, a senior journalist covering foreign affairs, who confirmed that Afghanistan has not taken any such military action against Pakistan.
According to a BBC Urdu report, “Afghanistan’s Permanent Mission has lodged a formal complaint with the UN Security Council regarding Pakistan’s recent airstrikes. It is noteworthy that Pakistan carried out these attacks in Nangarhar and Paktika provinces.”
According to another BBC report, “Pakistan targeted seven terrorist hideouts and camps in the Pakistan-Afghanistan border region based on intelligence.” Following these attacks, the Taliban government’s Defense Ministry has warned of retaliation “at the appropriate time.”
The X user who shared the viral video with the fake claim has over 25000 followers.
